Due to the forecast and the Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service Fort Worth Office (NWS) at 1 p.m. today, Birdville ISD will not have school Thursday, Jan. 9. The winter storm is forecast to move into our area early tomorrow morning, which could create challenging and potentially dangerous conditions for students and staff traveling to and from school.

The National Weather Service 1 p.m. update stated:

Current Watches, Warnings and Advisories
- Winter Storm Warning in effect for locations north and northeast of Parker to Dallas County line for Wednesday night through Friday.
- A Winter Weather Advisory elsewhere.
Important Note: This forecast is challenging because it’s not a traditional setup. It’s very difficult to tell which locations will see what combination of winter precipitation. Accumulation totals will vary across small distances, and the best we can give you is the range of accumulations across the entire area.

Travel Impacts:
- Some slick spots may develop Thursday morning but road conditions will become more hazardous around midday and in the afternoon hours.
- Where a transition to cold rain occurs, temporary improvements to travel conditions will likely occur. However, the return of snow in the evening will result in additional travel impacts.
- Any liquid on the ground Thursday evening will have the potential to freeze Thursday night into Friday.
- Temperatures will warm above freezing Friday but how much roads improve is uncertain due to cloud cover. Residual water could refreeze Friday night into Saturday morning.
We appreciate your understanding and support. Please be safe and stay warm.
