Birdville ISD is dedicated to the safety of students and staff. With the onset of winter, and the threat of snow and ice, it is important for the BISD community to know the District has an established plan to determine whether schools will be open, delayed or closed. The District attempts to make a decision about delaying or closing as soon as possible, usually by 5:30 a.m.

If the superintendent determines to delay or close school, the District’s phone messaging system will be activated, and the major radio and television stations will be notified. Also, the District will post this information on the District’s website, Facebook, Twitter, Birdville ISD News, and the District’s main voicemail at 817-547-5700. BISD only posts these notifications if school is delayed or closed — not if it is open as usual.

Safety Surveys

The highest priority of Birdville ISD is the safety of our students and staff.  In order to maintain a safe environment at all schools, we are asking parents, staff members and students to complete a safety survey.

During the month of February, students (grades 3–12) and staff, will take a safety survey at school during a time designated by the campus principal. In addition to students and staff, BISD is asking parents to complete the survey using the link below. Parents with children at multiple schools will be able to complete a survey for each campus.

Additional safety measures identified through the completed surveys may become part of either a Campus Improvement Plan or, if the issue is districtwide, the District Improvement Plan.

The online survey is accessible Feb. 1–28 at 2021–22 Parent Safety Survey   https://forms.gle/ywc8HXRu7Qi5DHsY8

Thank you for helping BISD keep our students and staff safe.

Each month, Birdville ISD partners with EECU to recognize a teacher and a support staff member in the District’s “I Shine at Birdville ISD!” program for making a difference in the lives of students, staff and the community.

Members of BISD’s Partners in Education Advisory Committee select the “I Shine at Birdville ISD!” winners from recognitions received through the District’s “Touch of Class” program. The Touch of Class program provides the opportunity for students, staff, parents and community members to recognize Birdville ISD employees for the positive work they do for children and the District.

When a Touch of Class nomination is received, a certificate and a copy of the nomination are sent to the honoree’s supervisor. The supervisor then recognizes the employee and presents them with their certificate.

The “I Shine at Birdville ISD!” honorees each receive $50 from EECU.

The January 2022 honorees are Darren Minix, Binion Elementary teacher, and Tim Jochum, BISD bus driver. Pictured with the honorees are Superintendent Dr. Gayle Stinson and Donna Thomas with EECU.

Darren Minix’s recommendation said, Mr. Minix has always been in contact with me from day one on how he could help accommodate my child. When he misses school he always sends a message to make sure he is okay. …  My son loves his teacher and looks forward to school each day. Thank you for all you do, it doesn’t go unnoticed!”

Tim Jochum recommendation said, Thank you so much Tim!  Your kindness and professionalism did not go unnoticed by the 2nd graders of W.A. Porter. I truly hope we see you on another field trip!  We need more people like you in this world!”

To honor any BISD staff member, submit a Touch of Class Nomination. The “I Shine at Birdville ISD!” winners are selected each month from the Touch of Class recognitions received.
